At elections there was interest in posting plans and progress by the committee formed to plan the 25 Anniversary and Reunion in 2011.
I will hit the high and important notes here and if you want more detail ask or email me.
2011 will be the Sesquicentenial of the WBTS and the 25th anniversery of the Palmetto Battalion. Early spring current Battalion staff gave me the go-ahead to start planning a series of events for the anniversery in 2011. Brenda Carpenter and Gerald Goins agreed to co-chair and we have 11 other committee members.
We decided we should have a series of activities at in-state evnets throughout the year. There will be the farbfest/funtime at the Battle of Aiken, this activity will feature a lantern tour of our favorite reenactment moments over the life of the Battalion. (I've all ready written a skit about Rob Warner and myself burning Atlanta and the contents of JR's haversack.)
Secessionville will have a period reunion, where we will pick a year and reenact a veteran's reunion Saturday evening at the cotton dock.
Additionally we will have activites to honor our deceased members, ladies' contributions, Col's, and award winners. These are 5 events.
We will send a schedule to all inactive members in fall of 2010. (This is why I need the rosters, unit reps.)This will cost approx $875.
We will have medal for members and participants.
The activities will have some expenses. We have asked the Battalion for some money, we will have some itmes like t-shirts and hats for sale, and we have some other fund raising plans.
If you want to be on the committee, please let me know. If you have any questions, post them here or ask/email me.
REMEMBER: NO ONE WILL BE ASKED TO GALVONIZE AT ANY ANNIVERSERY REUNION ACTIVITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
although you will likely galvonize for the event.....................................

We have in mind several items we may sell or pre-sale. Polo's were one of the suggestions.

Committee Members and interested parties:
We will have a short meeting for those who can attend at Brattonsville, during or after the Saturday evening meal being provided by the hosts.

The schedule of activities for the 25th Anniversery of the Palmetto Battalion in 2011 will be:
- River's Bridge- memorial service for deceased members, Sunday morning at the State Park (government permitting, of course)
- Battle of Aiken- Dinner and a show- Lantern Tour of favorite reenactment moments (start planning your scenarios)
- Florence/The Columns- Recognize and honor the Colonels
- Cheraw- Recognize and honor the ladies
- Brattonsville- Recognize and honor award winners, announce silver anniverary reenactors
- Secessionville- period reunion, we will pick a year and reenact a veteran's reunion, at the cotton dock at Secessionville event 2011, where we can have period lighting, sound, the works.

Also, we are going to collect up your stories and make a book. Darlene Delforio is going to be the collector/editor. Write your favorite stories and make the memorable events available for everyone- anything can be submitted from traveling to/from events, annoying anachranisms, and realistic experience.

Can we send stories of conspiracies or stories of planning a conspiracy?

I am looking forward to compiling the stories for this book, I am sure it will be fun.

Please send them in MS Word if you can. I can take the 2007 version or the 97-2003 version.

Send it attached to an e-mail to darlenedsc@yahoo.com.

I am sure the committee will be discussing a deadline, but for now, just think about which stories you would like to send and start writing. Of course, you can send as many as you would like.

Please put the event name and year at the top if you remember those.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Darlene

Folks:
At 2011 Battle of Aiken, in honor of the 25th anniversery of the Battalion, we are going to have a "Lantern Tour of Reenactments". Prepare a skit of your favorite reenacting moments and you will make it immortal at the "Lantern Tour of Reenactments"
Also, write the story in narrative form and be even more immortal in the Battalion History Stories being compiled by Darlene.

I know the Atlanta "Rob, the truck is on fire" story will make it into this.

Images of tattered and burnt bag and cans of black powder on I-75 come to mind. :saywhat:

Ohhh...and Robbie Loadholdt waiting until he was in the prescense of a SC State Trooper to decide he could wait no longer on the side of the interstate. :nope:

I wrote a story for the Battalion history and a skit of the famous Rob & David mishap in downtown Atlanta.
Someone else needs to document Robbie's toiliting habits..............

Plans keep moving forward for the 25th Anniversery year. In case anyone was intersted in the budget items and estimates, I thought I'd post what we have so far:
Budget:
We have $1000 from the Battalion
The 14th has $100, I need to get that to Archie.
The 10th has a donation
The 13th has a donation
The Edgefield UDC and SCV have a donation
We need to get those donations in to the adjutant (Archie); I need name and addresses of non-Battalion contributors so I can send Thank You cards.
Here’s why we need the money:
Budget Items:
Mailer: $1000*
Printing: $1000 (5 programs at $200)*
Awards: No estimate yet- 4 plaques
Medals: No estimate yet
Printing Book: No estimate yet

Meal at Period Reunion (Seccessionville)
No estimate yet (best idea so far is grill a bunch of Boston Butts)
*likely can come in under budget

ALSO:
Aiken 2011 we will have a meal Saturday evening and a "Lantern Tour of Favortie Reenactment Moments". Make up a skit of your favorite moments and immortalize them at the lantern tour.

The 25th Anniversary plans are moving along.
The committee is going to have some silent auctions as fundraisers, the first will be at elections in September. There will be another in Cheraw 2010.
The committe is also going to sponsor a story telling competition at an event this year. There will probably be two catagories, one for 1st person and another for Anachronism.
More info about the silent auction and story telling contest will be coming later.
